Formula Offroad Axial SCX10
« : 16 Maaliskuu, 2011, 19:30:45 »
Hi guys. Been looking at your forum for a week or so, and decided to sign up to show my latest build. It's an Axial SCX10 kit, converted for FOFF. I am running a Traxxas VXL brushless system on 3S lipo. I am still playing around with gear ratios to get the right amount of wheel speed. But, it is working great so far.

I have read that the Panther paddles work good, and that the Pro-line Sand Paws are ok as well. I am curious if anyone here has tried the RC4WD paddles? If so, any feedback would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks for looking.  ;D

Hello! Nice when new guys write our forum, there little finland  :D
And i'm sorry, my english suck, but i'm still trying...  ;)

Nice product and whado video, suspension is really work! Very interested video, nice slowclips and all, rispect!  8)

What's the car wheelbase? Is it normal scx10 about 12,5" or what? Car looks great and what i seen in video, its
worked rc foff modified car! Wheel speed is most hardest thing, because if i had too quickly car, it doesn't "handle"
very well, its "writing in the sandmountain", if you know what i meaning... I like enought power, but its trying and tyring,
so you find your own speedlevel.

Panther are the bests, we have seen that rc4wd paddles in norway last year, but the paddle are still too small. Panther
is the best paddles and sand paw is okei also, but panther win the race  :) And own productions are also, i have Pnesh
series, wich is my production panther masher tires, you can see it there: http://rc-foff.net/smf/index.php?topic=3065.msg20109#new
(it the V Productions Pnesh F07).

Welcom our forum!

Welcome!

Your build looks great. It's more realistic than any of the comp vehicles last year.

One guy tried rc4wd paddles but wasn't happy for the result. As far as I know panther paddles are still the best aftermarket tires. Ofc it depends on the surface you're driving.

Btw, your crawling builds have been motivators for my crawling and foff builds. I also had SWX chassis but didn't try it on foff. Maybe I will get another some day.
This year I'm going for Axial Wraith Rock Racer Buggy. I have high expectations for it. You don't happen to have any to do with this or is it just Jake and the rest of the axial team ;)?

Thanks for the welcome guys.  8)

Hadesbear, thank you for the tire info, and for the compliments. Your English seems pretty good to me.  ;D

My truck has a 13 1/2" wheelbase. Basically it's a standard SCX10, with the front axle stretched out. I understand the power thing too, too fast is hard to drive, too slow won't be able to climb. I think I have found a pretty good combo of both now, after making some gear changes. I run a 20t pinion, 87t spur with the VXL on 3S. Seems to have enough wheel speed, but still handles ok.

SlidSlide, thanks for the compliments, and for the additional tire info.

I wanted to build a super realistic version of a Formula Offroad vehicle, and see how capable I can make it. So far, I am really happy with the looks and performance.

I want to convert one of our new Wraiths into an FOFF car too, should be an awesome platform to build off. I didn't have much to do with that product though, it was all our design/R&D team. They did a great job with it!  ;D

I just realized I never posted any body off photos. So, here are a couple so you can see the modifications I made to this SCX10.

Great build Bender!  :o

I can't wait to see some of this action. We're starting a Club now just because of you and that video. Thanks for the info and body off pics, gives me a few ideas for my own build. And nice choice on your Suspension shock absorbers  :P

Great video, tho' I would have liked more hillclimbs than jumps.
Hope you had you spares with you, that's a nasty hit to the front hub carrier.

Thanks Chili.  8)

I agree with you too, the next video will be geared more towards the climbs. I am going to try and lay out a couple courses for the next video too. Premature breakage and a dead video camera battery caused me to cut this session short. I had all the parts needed to fix this break, aside from the aluminum knuckle.

Couple more questions for you guys. It seems like "drag brake" would help on descents and break overs. Are you guys using drag brake on your ESC's? If so, what percent is it set too?

And for the guys running the Mamba Max Pro's, does sand get into the cooling fan and jam it up?

Thanks again for the help guys.  8)

I have 20% db on my MM. I find it helpful.

Like SlidSlide wrote, drag brake is useful and i use also it. I haved try 10-40% drag brake but it now 10%
because my modified car Hadesbear doesn't roll too easy. SC car i have 30% drag brake now, but its still
trying and learning for me (SC class) so i find the best "setup" for me. Unlimited car i have 0% db.

Cooling fan will stop very easy in this hobby and my mamba monster max its doesn't work anymore but
modified car combo Matrix & Arrowind esc work very good and i have drive it now 47 competion, so it is
worked good and it cool still.

Excellent guys, thanks for the tips. I figured drag brake may be useful. I have a Mamba Max Pro that I could use, but was guessing the sand wouldn't mix very well with the cooling fan. I will look into those other ESC's.

I dont think you'll need the fan. In my experience the temperature will stay low in axial. I haven't had temp issues even on 35 celsius (95 fahrenheit) weathers.

Good point. I may give it a go and see how it does. Thanks again.  8)

Yes I did.  ;D

Thanks.  8)

I shot some more video this weekend, with gates set-up on the hillside. The sand was a little wet, so there was a lot of traction, making the climbs easier then normal. I will post a link here when it's done.

Looks beautiful, 4 panthers, and roughly 40,000 rpm from the motor!
Any progress on the video #2?

Thanks. I am loving the Panther's all the way around, these tires just hook up.  ;D

I have video #2 edited, just need to upload it. 8)
