Hello my Name is Ray from UK.

I have been reading your forum using google translate http://translate.google.com/#fi|en| ;D and I really like the look of FOFF so I have designed to design and build my own 1/8th FOFF but I need some help please.

1. What is the best wheelbase? I have seen your cars on here ranging from 380mm to 447mm

2. what side width?

3. Should my car be as fast as possible (Example Gearing 13T/48T) or should it be slow like a rock crawler?

4. Lipo battery or Nitro Engine?

Thanks for your help

Ray  :)

Hei, nimeni on Ray Englannista.

Olen lukenut teidän foorumi Google kääntää http://translate.google.com/ # fi | en |, D ja pidän todella ulkoasua foff joten olen suunnitellut suunnitella ja rakentaa oma 1/8th foff mutta minä Tarvitsen apua kiitos.

1. Mikä on paras akseliväli? Olen nähnyt autoja täällä vaihtelee 380 mm ja 447mm

2. mikä puoli leveys?

3. Pitäisikö minun auto on mahdollisimman nopeasti (esimerkiksi Gearing 13T/48T) vai pitäisikö sen olla hidas rock crawler?

4. Lipo akku tai Nitro Engine?

Kiitos auttaa

1./2.   I think that 1&2 depends on your driving style, as does the ground clearance, If you have a lot of time you can try different wheelbases, widths and ground clearances.

3. -

4. Most people prefer Electric (LiPo) but if you want, you can make it Nitro.

Hello Ray and welcome to world of Formula Offroad.

Variation of wheelbases in 1/8 size trucks is really differing from stock truggy wheelbase to 480 mm. I think most common wheelbase in this Unlimited class is ~ 460 mm. That seems to offer good weight distribution but still allows tight turns. I think every truck has stock width suspension arms and thus truck width is nearly stock unless widened with half offset wheels. Chassis width is usually what ever is stock in the truggy used as bases for build. Some trucks have custom narrower chassis, but those are quite rare.

Both great amount of torque at low revs and high speed might be optimal. I am personally driving with torque most of the time and using high speed only on the most steepest hills. May be I should use higher speed more often, but I love cruising slowly on a hill. Anyway gear ratios I am using are 13/46 (pinion/spur) and stock truggy gears in front and rear differentials.

Selection betweek nitro and electric is only up to which one is your favorite. I personally like my electric trucks as in those I've been able to combine both extreme torque with extreme power. That allows me to drive really slowly offers over 60 km/h speed when needed. Electric allows you to drive more difficult hills than Nitro. Some routes which are impossible for Nitro can be easy for electric. When selecting motor (electric or nitro) and possible ESC keep in mind that driving in loose sand with paddle tires may require up to three times more power than driving truggy on a track.

Hmm.. i think good wheelbase is 43-46, but i say most used is 43-44. Own choice, many variations.

Hello,

Not been logged on for a while so I'm back to designing/researching my FoFF.

Wheelbase I'm going for 460mm because my width will be 450mm.

With such a wide width I may even go to 470mm wheelbase
